Hyde Park YMCA will be closed for a year to undergo an $8.1 million dollar renovation.

In 1994, a public school teacher started a soccer league with the prupose of providing girls with an alternative so spending time on the streets. During inclement weather she added creative writing and literary arts to the program as a means of expression. The program has expanded to 6000 youth in urban public schools serving 14 cities.
