Bush announced last week the option for financial institutions to voluntarily freeze some of the adjustable mortgages to slow the rise in foreclosures, City Councilor Rob Consalvo is tackling another side of the foreclosure issue — abandoned foreclosed properties.

City Council wants banks to maintain foreclosed home

With foreclosures in Boston on the sharp increase, city councilors want to make sure banks - not taxpayers - are responsible for keeping those homes from turning to blight.

City Councilor Rob Consalvo asked for a hearing on the matter and received the backing of the entire council.
"They recognize that it's an issue citywide," Consalvo said yesterday.
